Hudson Bay Railway to restart grain shipments through Port of Churchill
The first grain movement on the northern corridor is scheduled to start July 17, with export vessels planned later this summer to send cargo to global markets.
Hudson Bay Railway is set to restart grain shipments from Canada’s Prairies to Port of Churchill, Manitoba, marking the first grain movement through the northern corridor since 2020, according to an announcement shared by Arctic Gateway Group.
The grain will travel north through Manitoba on the Hudson Bay Railway from The Pas, Manitoba, beginning July 17, before multiple export vessels ship it later this summer to global markets from Churchill, Canada’s only deepwater Arctic seaport linked to the North American rail system.
Arctic Gateway Group said the port corridor is also expected to diversify exports this year, including critical minerals and potash, plus industrial goods, supplies, and equipment to Nunavut, with the company citing this as one of the most diversified export mixes in the port’s history.
The restart is part of Arctic Gateway Group’s broader effort to rebuild long-term traffic on the corridor, which the company described as supporting export volumes for Western Canada’s crops and resources, including wheat, barley, oats, canola, and soybeans.
