Lina Khan named board chair of New York City Economic Development Corporation
Khan will lead the EDC’s 27-member board and oversee policy and project approvals after succeeding Margaret Anadu, who was appointed in 2022.
New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani has appointed Lina Khan, the former chair of the Federal Trade Commission, as the new board chair of the New York City Economic Development Corporation, a role that places her at the helm of the agency’s board and major development efforts.
According to Commercial Observer, Khan will lead a 27-member board and help guide the EDC’s policy direction, including approving the organization’s projects. Her appointment comes as she succeeds Margaret Anadu, who was appointed by then-Mayor Eric Adams in 2022.
The change was announced alongside a separate leadership appointment: Mamdani named Anthony Shorris as the new president of the EDC to manage day-to-day operations and oversee initiatives such as five new city-run grocery stores, one in each borough.
Commercial Observer also notes that Khan served as the youngest-ever FTC chair during the Biden administration, leading an aggressive shift in antitrust policy, including lawsuits against major tech conglomerates and actions targeting large corporate mergers aimed at reducing consumer costs.
