NAR outlines 2026 to 2028 plan updates on MLS guidance and legal strategy
The update describes new steps on MLS guidance and DOJ related letters as the industry absorbs commission litigation and high mortgage rates.
The National Association of Realtors released a second-quarter update on its 2026 to 2028 strategic plan, setting out actions across lobbying, MLS guidance and a legal strategy tied to commission litigation, as the real estate industry navigates heightened DOJ scrutiny and affordability pressures.
In the update, NAR CEO Nykia Wright said the plan is the association’s main vehicle for delivering advocacy, guidance and tools for members to serve clients and grow their businesses in a fast-changing regulatory and market environment. The update runs through seven priority areas and also highlights governance and technology and education updates, including steps ahead of a new learning management system launch.
On the federal policy front, NAR said it helped shepherd what it called the most significant federal housing package in nearly two decades into law through nationwide advocacy and coalition work, which it framed as a response to supply and affordability challenges.
For MLSs, NAR reported it published practical guidance and resources for MLSs and members and convened industry partners to send letters to the DOJ, the Federal Trade Commission and the U.S. Copyright Office to support the MLS system, aiming to increase clarity around MLS policies and underscore MLSs’ role in a transparent, pro competitive marketplace.
