Trump warns US will strike Iranian infrastructure if ships are attacked
The comments come as crude prices hold near recent highs, with WTI at $87.05 and up $2.70 on the day.
President Donald Trump said on Truth Social that the United States will bomb and destroy one bridge or power plant if Iran shoots at a ship in the Strait of Hormuz, including facilities located near Tehran.
The remarks add to already heightened Middle East shipping and security risks, with Iran reiterating it controls the Strait of Hormuz and the IRGC warning it is prepared to carry out a “regret-inducing operation” if U.S. attacks continue.
Separately, the source notes that U.S. airstrikes have continued for an 11th consecutive day and that defense officials are seeking additional funding for military operations.
Energy prices are reflecting the risk backdrop, with the AAA price of a gallon of gasoline in the United States reaching $4.06 versus $2.98 at the start of the war, while WTI crude is trading at $87.05, up $2.70, after an intraday high of $88.61.
