Bayview and Springmont to acquire BWE, with leadership retaining stake

BWE connects borrowers with lenders for commercial and multifamily real estate, and the deal was not disclosed in terms of valuation or stake size.

Bayview Asset Management and Springmont Capital have agreed to purchase the majority interest in BWE, a full-service commercial and multifamily mortgage banking company, according to a release shared by Bisnow.

BWE’s executives will remain significant minority owners in the transaction, though specific terms including valuation and the size of the retained stake were not disclosed. BWE CEO and President DJ Effler will continue as leader, with the partnership described as a platform for long-term expansion and enhanced capital solutions for clients.

BWE, based in Ohio, operates as an originator that connects borrowers with lenders for refinancing, development, and investment across commercial and multifamily real estate. The firm recently secured financing for an assisted living and memory care facility in Minnesota, and it also obtained $130M in first-mortgage financing for an apartment and townhome community in New Jersey, per its website.

The acquisition is the second such deal for Bayview in the past year, after it purchased mortgage lender Guild Holdings in November. Bisnow reports BWE is being acquired through Bayview’s Bayview MSR Opportunity Master Fund.
