Global commercial insurance rates fall 6% in Q2 2026

Marsh said property premiums declined 12% globally, while US casualty rates rose 7% as insurers tightened underwriting and pricing for US-exposed risks.

Global commercial insurance rates fell 6% in Q2 2026, the eighth straight quarterly decline, according to Marsh’s Global Insurance Market Index (GIMI), released by Reinsurance News. Marsh also said the drop followed a 5% decline in the first quarter of the year.

Marsh reported that all regions saw year-over-year composite rate declines in Q2 2026. The biggest decrease was in India and the Middle East and Africa, where composite rates fell 16%, followed by declines of 13% in the Pacific and 9% in Latin America and the Caribbean. Marsh also cited a UK 8% decrease, a Canada 7% decline, a Europe 6% fall, and a 5% drop in Asia.

In the US, composite commercial insurance rates eased 2% in Q2 2026, after a 1% decline in Q1 2026, even as casualty rates increased 7% in the quarter. Marsh attributed the broader rate declines to abundant capacity, stronger insurer profitability, a surplus of capital, lower reinsurance costs, and higher investment returns, which boosted competition.

Marsh said property insurance rates declined 12% globally, building on 9% decreases in Q1 2026 and Q4 2025. Cyber insurance rates also fell 4% globally for the twelfth consecutive quarter, with the largest decrease in IMEA at 14%, while the US saw a 2% reduction, Marsh reported.
