Artificial intelligence is increasingly being used by utility companies to improve operations that extend beyond power grids, including how they manage and optimize their real estate portfolios, according to a JLL report highlighted by ConnectCRE.
The report says generative AI can help utilities convert owned and leased properties into self-optimizing assets that support business performance, while consolidating facility and asset data into centralized platforms to spot inefficiencies and recommend improvements.
It also points to predictive maintenance as a key application, describing how continuous monitoring can flag potential errors before they become major issues, shifting maintenance teams from reactive breakdown response to proactive planning.
ConnectCRE further notes that JLL estimates the predictive maintenance approach may deliver returns of up to 545% over time, citing lower capital replacement costs, improved equipment efficiency, and reduced energy consumption.
