Better Home & Finance adds Orange Capital founder Daniel Lewis to board
The board change took effect July 27, as Better pursues 2026 goals tied to its Tinman AI platform and AI loan agent Betsy.
Better Home & Finance Holding Co. appointed Daniel Lewis, founder of Orange Capital and a key shareholder, to its board of directors, replacing outgoing director David Barse, the company said. The changes took effect July 27.
The appointment aligns with Better’s shift toward an AI-native mortgage and home equity platform, with the company emphasizing capital allocation, governance and profitable growth as originators operate amid high rates and tighter margins, HousingWire reported.
Lewis, who founded Orange Capital in 2005 after earlier career roles including at Citigroup, brings more than 30 years of investment and operating experience. Better described him as supporting its next phase of growth while the firm continues its AI-powered transformation.
Better also said Barse stepped down on July 27 to pursue new opportunities and that his departure was not due to any disagreement over operations, policies or practices. The company noted it has funded more than $110 billion in loan volume since inception and is focused on its Tinman AI platform and Betsy, an AI loan agent that provides borrower status updates and support around the clock.
