China sets October date for 20th Central Committee plenum
The session will include more than 370 Central Committee members and is scheduled about a month after Xi Jinping’s planned trip to the United States.
China’s top leadership has scheduled the fifth plenary session of the 20th Central Committee for October in Beijing, according to Xinhua, following a Politburo meeting reported by SCMP Economy.
The reported agenda centers on “consistently exercising full and rigorous governance over the party,” with expectations for significant leadership shuffles ahead of next year’s Communist Party congress, when Xi Jinping is expected to start a fourth term.
SCMP Economy reports that more than 370 full and alternate members of the Central Committee will participate in the plenum, which will be held about a month after the Chinese president is due to travel to the United States.
