Hong Kong orders report after crash snarls traffic on airport link
Officials said police first moved the overturned vehicle to the middle and fast lanes, but the jam still lasted more than three hours during the evening rush.
Hong Kong transport authorities have ordered the operator of the Tsing Ma Control Area, a key corridor connecting the city to the airport on Lantau Island, to investigate a Wednesday crash and submit a detailed report with recommendations for improvement, according to SCMP Economy.
Police said they were alerted at 7:36 pm after a collision on the Cheung Tsing Highway in Tsing Yi, after which a medium goods vehicle overturned and caused major congestion.
SCMP Economy reports that traffic was paralysed for more than three hours as commuters faced delays during the evening rush hour, and both drivers were taken to Princess Margaret Hospital in Kwai Chung for treatment of injuries.
The Transport Department said officers initially towed the overturned vehicle to the middle and fast lanes to ease congestion, and the operator dispatched light and heavy-duty rescue vehicles under the contract, with the units arriving after 7:30 pm.
