Apple says China rollout of Siri AI will take longer
Apple plans an initial China release of targeted Apple Intelligence features, including Clean Up, while regional revenue still trailed Wall Street estimates.
Apple is beginning the first steps of rolling out AI features in China, but CEO Tim Cook cautioned that fully integrating a revamped Siri AI there will take longer, according to SCMP Economy.
Cook said the initial phase will focus on a targeted suite of original Apple Intelligence capabilities for mainland Chinese users, including Clean Up, which lets users erase unwanted objects in photos, while additional work on Siri AI will follow.
SCMP Economy also linked the update to Apple’s recent performance in the region. Apple’s revenue covering mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau rose 22.0% year on year to US$18.8 billion for the quarter ended June 27, but came in below Wall Street expectations of US$19.6 billion.
Overall, Apple’s global revenue increased 16.0% year on year to US$109.4 billion, supported by a 22.0% surge in iPhone sales, as the company leans on AI features to help address competition in its largest smartphone market.
