Arizona tradeport hubs receive $16 million federal grant
The funds will support development of the first three hubs along I-40, including sites in Kingman and Winslow.
Arizona is set to receive a $16 million federal grant for early development work on a network of tradeport hubs aimed at streamlining domestic cargo movement, according to ConnectCRE. The effort is planned to roll out in multiple phases starting from California to Arizona and onward to the East Coast.
The grant is earmarked for creating the first three tradeport hubs, each spanning 1,000 to 5,000 acres along the I-40 corridor, with Phoenix Business Journal reporting the allocation. The first route is designed to connect the Port of Los Angeles to Albuquerque, New Mexico, via northern Arizona and through the BNSF Southern Transcon Railroad.
In Arizona, the two key tradeport hub locations identified are in Kingman and Winslow. An initial estimate of the total development costs for the Winslow hub is pegged at $750 million.
Global Logistics Development Partners is spearheading the tradeport hubs project, with the broader plan described as integrating highways, rail lines, and airlines in manufacturing hot spots across the United States.
