HK DSE mainland exam fee rises 220% to HK$8,000
The Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority said the jump follows the end of a three-year pilot that subsidized mainland remote test centers.
Students sitting Hong Kong’s university entrance exam in mainland China next year will face a registration fee of HK$8,000 (US$1,020), a 220% increase from the current HK$2,500 after a pilot scheme ends, according to SCMP Economy.
The Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority (HKEAA) also set out local increases, with local students paying 4% more to sit each subject, bringing per-subject charges to a range of HK$540 to HK$808.
The authority attributed the higher mainland “initial fees” to the completion of a three-year program that ran exam centers on the mainland, allowing eligible Hong Kong candidates to take the exam remotely since 2024.
SCMP Economy reports the HKEAA said the pilot subsidy could not continue, citing ongoing operational costs including exam security, additional equipment and personnel, and the secure delivery and storage of question papers, answer scripts, and other examination materials.
