DeepSeek invites open-source developers to beta test its agent tool

The company did not name a release date for DeepSeek Harness, while its team said it is still recruiting for the effort.

Chinese AI company DeepSeek is inviting open-source developers to beta test its upcoming “harness” software, designed to help turn large language models into AI agents. The move aims to accelerate the company’s push into agentic technology, according to a social media post cited by the South China Morning Post.

DeepSeek said harness testing is underway as it recruits additional contributors, with the harness team led by Cui Tianyi. Cui did not disclose a release date for DeepSeek Harness.

The report also ties the agent push to DeepSeek’s broader strategy under CEO and co-founder Liang Wenfeng, who is emphasizing low-cost, capable models as part of the company’s approach toward artificial general intelligence.

The outlet notes DeepSeek has positioned its recent V4 Flash model as part of the same cost efficiency trend influencing AI markets.
