JPMorgan to deploy $750B for housing through 2035, backing 1M units

The bank said it will support 500,000 buyers, add 850 home lending advisers, and originated $17.2 billion in mortgages in the second quarter.

JPMorgan Chase plans to deploy more than $750 billion for housing through 2035 as part of its American Dream Initiative, with support aimed at expanding homeownership opportunities and affordable inventory. HousingWire reports the effort includes financing for 1 million affordable housing units and help for 500,000 buyers, alongside hiring 850 home lending advisers.

The bank also plans to roll out expanded mortgage products, including modular and manufactured home financing, and to consider options such as down payment assistance and other mechanisms intended to reduce long-term borrowing costs. JPMorgan said the program represents a nearly 40% increase in housing-related capital compared with the prior decade.

JPMorgan said it expects to be more active in the purchase mortgage market, including support for 200,000 first-time buyers and the use of new digital tools to support originations. In addition, the bank plans to work in the secondary market to harmonize standards among key housing finance institutions and federal programs, with an aim to streamline opportunities for private capital.

HousingWire also notes the scale of the bank’s recent mortgage activity, citing JPMorgan’s originations of $17.2 billion from April through June, up 26% quarter over quarter. The majority of volume came from its retail channel at $10.6 billion, up 22%, followed by its correspondent business at $6.6 billion, up 32%.
