Solo miner earns about $199,300 in block reward amid Coldcard fallout

The independent miner mined block 960,804 with a 3.157 BTC reward early Monday, part of a streak that includes 13 solo-mined blocks so far this year.

CoinDesk reports that an independent solo miner successfully packaged Bitcoin block 960,804 early Monday, despite broader market concerns tied to a multimillion-dollar Coldcard hardware wallet exploit.

The outlet said the block reward was 3.157 BTC, valued at approximately $199,300, though the specific hardware used was not identified.

CoinDesk also pointed to recent solo-mining results, noting another operator struck block 957,382 about three weeks earlier using a single hobbyist-grade Bitaxe device, earning 3.1382 BTC, roughly $200,000 at the time. It added that solo miners have claimed 13 blocks this year.

Beyond mining, CoinDesk cited on-chain activity around the Coldcard incident, including a spike in BTC sending addresses on Friday and a rise in exchange reserves to 2.718 million BTC from 2.706 million BTC on July 30, with some analytics firms arguing the movement reflects wallet migration rather than direct exchange deposits. The newsletter also flagged rising Treasury yields as a potential headwind for risk assets, including cryptocurrencies, and said the Senate left the Clarity Act off Monday’s agenda with limited session time remaining before recess.
