Canopy MLS splits CEO roles to focus on technology and member tools
Canopy MLS said it will separate MLS and Realtor association leadership more fully for the first time since both operated under a shared CEO structure.
HousingWire reports that Canopy MLS is restructuring its leadership by splitting the CEO role it previously shared with the Realtor association. The organization named Steve Byrd as its new CEO and said the change is intended to sharpen focus on delivering technology and tools, while keeping the MLS flexible amid shifts in listing data, private listings, and regulatory debates.
Byrd will take the helm from longtime Canopy Realtors and MLS CEO Anne Marie DeCatsye. Instead of having one person lead both sides, Decatsye’s existing role will be filled by two separate people, marking a more complete separation in leadership between the association and the MLS, even though they have had separate boards since 2003.
According to HousingWire, Byrd, who has spent nearly three decades with Canopy, framed the MLS’s mission around products, services, and technology that participants need to serve clients. He contrasted that with the association side, which he said is focused more on advocacy and education.
HousingWire also reports that Byrd pointed to evolving participant needs as a driver for the MLS’s goals, including adding more products to its portfolio. He said AI is expected to have a large impact and could help expand the variety of tools available for members.
