CRMLS CEO warns agents risk missing AI, expects more litigation
Art Carter, CEO of California Regional MLS, said the MLS sector is facing consolidation, rate driven market shifts, regulatory change, and that more legal disputes may follow.
CRMLS CEO Art Carter told HousingWire that the real estate industry is overlooking the impact of artificial intelligence even as the market undergoes consolidation, rate driven shifts, and regulatory changes. He urged brokers and agents to focus on separating what he called “noise” from “reality” as they adapt to new conditions.
Carter said he views AI as transformational and criticized the industry for not paying enough attention to it, calling the current level of focus a disappointment. He added that CRMLS is preparing MLS infrastructure for what he described as the AI era.
HousingWire reported that Carter is scheduled to speak at the outlet’s AI Summit this coming Tuesday, where he will join Tim Dain, president and CEO of NorthstarMLS, to discuss how MLS platforms may need to evolve for AI use cases.
Carter also flagged California’s regulatory landscape and said he expects additional litigation is on the horizon, pointing to pressures on brokerage communities and the potential risks that come with concentration as firms grow.
