CRMLS CEO warns real estate industry is missing key AI work
Art Carter also said brokers will face heightened pressure from rate-driven market shifts and regulatory change, with more litigation possible.
California Regional MLS CEO Art Carter told HousingWire that real estate participants need to better separate market noise from reality as consolidation, rate-driven shifts, and regulatory changes reshape how brokers operate.
Carter criticized the industry for underweighting artificial intelligence, calling it a disappointment that transformational AI change is being overlooked, even as MLS infrastructure and broker workflows evolve toward an AI era.
He also warned about potential risks as brokerage communities get larger and concentrate resources, including the possibility that participants could withdraw from shared marketplaces, which he said would not benefit buyers or sellers.
Carter added that, beyond AI, he expects additional litigation on the horizon and is set to speak at HousingWire’s AI Summit this Tuesday with Tim Dain, president and CEO of NorthstarMLS, to discuss how MLS infrastructure is evolving for the AI era.
