Gold Crown Foundation to build $45M Castle Rock fieldhouse
The Douglas County Board approved a $7.5M grant toward the proposed 75,000-square-foot facility, with a tentative early 2028 opening date.
Gold Crown Foundation, a Denver-based youth sports nonprofit, plans to develop a 75,000-square-foot indoor fieldhouse south of Denver in Castle Rock, featuring six courts and parking. The project is expected to cost $45 million and is tentatively set to open in early 2028, according to the Denver Business Journal, as cited by Bisnow.
Bisnow reports that Douglas County commissioners will grant the foundation $7.5 million to help bring the facility to fruition, with the funding approved Tuesday and distributed at a later date. Additional financing is expected to come from Gold Crown Foundation and committed gifts.
The nonprofit, founded by business leader Ray Baker and former Denver Nuggets player and coach Bill Hanzlik in 1986, runs youth leagues and events including basketball, golf, volleyball and flag football. Its proposed Castle Rock complex adds to existing facilities in Lakewood, where it operates a fieldhouse and a baseball park, according to its website.
Bisnow also points to a broader wave of sports-related development in the Denver area, including plans for new stadium and entertainment district projects involving the Denver Broncos, Denver Summit FC and Kroenke Sports & Entertainment.
