CUHK to overhaul mandatory general education under 2026-2030 plan
The reform, to be implemented over CUHK’s 2026 to 2030 strategic plan, also adds a broader curriculum focus on innovation, entrepreneurship and sustainability alongside national education.
The Chinese University of Hong Kong will reform its mandatory General Education programme for all undergraduates by integrating national education with a global perspective and adding concepts of innovation, entrepreneurship and sustainability, according to SCMP Economy.
SCMP Economy reports that the initiative was announced as part of the university’s new five-year strategic plan covering 2026 to 2030, the first such plan under president Dennis Lo Yuk-ming, who took office in January 2025.
Under the plan, CUHK said the reformed course will aim to enhance national education and provide a systematic understanding of modern China while also building a robust global outlook.
SCMP Economy adds that the university will prioritize five strategic areas, including talent attraction and development, global and alumni engagement, strengthening cooperation with its Shenzhen campus and other Greater Bay Area institutions, expanding internships, and launching a flagship international undergraduate programme.
