Prabowo approval rating slips sharply in new Indonesia survey
The Saiful Mujani Research and Consulting poll put Prabowo’s approval at 51.1 percent, down from 81.2 percent in November, while dissatisfaction nearly hit 47 percent in July.
Indonesia President Prabowo Subianto’s approval rating has continued to fall in a new survey, as voters weigh his welfare and village-economy agenda against worries about household finances and whether the government can deliver, according to SCMP Economy. The poll by Saiful Mujani Research and Consulting, or SMRC, found Prabowo’s approval at 51.1 percent, down from 81.2 percent in November and 66.4 percent in March. Dissatisfaction with his performance rose from 16 percent in November to nearly 47 percent in July. SMRC linked the decline in public satisfaction to weaker sentiment toward economic, political, and law enforcement conditions, with the survey release citing comments from SMRC executive director Deni Irvani made on July 29. SMRC surveyed 749 respondents from July 5 to 19. SCMP Economy also noted the broader stakes: Prabowo took office in October 2024 with promises of faster growth, stronger sovereignty, and large social programmes. The survey indicated that in a hypothetical election held today, he would trail West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi, with 14.5 percent of respondents choosing Prabowo versus 35 percent for Mulyadi.
