Swiss Re names AI a core pillar as insurance demand rises
Swiss Re said AI-backed workflows cut the typical time to issue local policies from 45 days to under five days.
Reinsurance News reports that Swiss Re has made artificial intelligence a core part of its group strategy, pointing to rising demand for both insurance and reinsurance risk transfer and risk expertise. CEO Andreas Berger said demand is increasing in a world where risks are more interconnected and complex.
Speaking after the release of Swiss Re’s first-half 2026 results, Berger described ongoing macro and operational shifts, including recurring supply shocks, geopolitical fragmentation, and large-scale infrastructure investments, as factors raising the importance of insurer and reinsurer resilience-building for businesses and societies.
The company said AI is helping amplify its people’s expertise by enabling the analysis of larger and more complex datasets, identifying patterns earlier, and generating deeper insights. Berger also cited automation and AI-enabled workflows as a way to speed up execution in Swiss Re Corporate Solutions’ international programme business.
As an example, the outlet said the industry average for issuing local policies is 45 days, while Swiss Re, using data-driven rules and automation, is now able to issue local policies faster than five days, with greater consistency and fewer handovers.
