Hong Kong sets Nov. 22 vote date for election committee seats

The nominations will run from Oct. 7 to 20 for 982 Election Committee seats, with the five year term starting February 2027.

Hong Kong will hold the Election Committee subsector ordinary elections on November 22, after the government gazetted the relevant notice, according to SCMP Economy.

Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu specified the polling date, while the nomination period will run from October 7 to 20, the outlet reported. The chief electoral officer will later publish a notice detailing the nomination form submission window.

The vote will fill 982 seats of the Election Committee’s 1,500 member total. The elected members will serve a five year term from February 2027 to January 2032.

Hong Kong’s Election Committee is made up of 1,500 members across five sectors and 40 subsectors, with the body tasked with selecting the city’s chief executive and some legislative candidates, SCMP Economy added. The government said it will work with the Electoral Affairs Commission to conduct the elections in an open, honest, fair, safe and orderly manner.
