Crypto fans gather at Manhattan bar amid Coinkite Coldcard hack fallout
Attendees discussed a hack tied to Coinkite Coldcard devices and said Bitcoin is down about 50% from an October high.
Crypto enthusiasts filled PubKey in Manhattan’s West Village for an event as the industry grappled with a recent hack involving Coinkite Inc. devices that, according to the report, has siphoned an estimated $130 million from customers.
The focus at the bar included Coinkite’s cold wallet hardware concept, which is designed to keep secret codes off the internet, and the report says last week’s Coldcard hack raised concerns that the devices may not be as secure as customers expected.
The gathering also reflected on Bitcoin’s recent performance, with the article noting the asset is down roughly 50% since an October peak, while other concerns such as crypto-related robberies added to the pressure.
Galaxy analyst Alex Thorn, who is described as helping victims understand their next steps, told attendees that people have reached out after losing full Bitcoin, with the report citing that at current prices this is below $65,000 for each coin, though still a major loss for individuals.
