Zijin Mining surges after profit alert, helping miner rankings top $2.17T
The MINING.COM Top 50 added $18 billion in July, reaching $2.17 trillion, as Zijin climbed 23.8% and Polyus fell 37.6% after dividend plans.
At the end of July, the MINING.COM Top 50 ranking of the world’s most valuable miners had a combined market capitalization of $2.17 trillion, up $18 billion for the month and up $26 billion so far in 2026.
The ranking was reworked to include mined metals and minerals only, excluding coal-heavy counters, and every earlier period back to the start of the decade was recalculated under the revised rules.
Zijin Mining was the biggest winner in July, adding $24 billion of market value and rising 23.8% to $125 billion, moving past Newmont into fourth place. The move followed a first-half profit alert in early July that guided net profit to roughly RMB 39.1 billion, up 68%, with gold output up 15% to just over 1.5 million ounces and silver edging up to 7.4 million ounces.
At the other end of the list, Polyus surrendered $13.2 billion of value, down 37.6%, falling eight places to number 28. MINING.COM said Polyus told shareholders on 8 July it would suspend dividends until 2030 to fund investment projects, and the stock dropped 26% in a single session.
