Bitcoin remains the biggest crypto despite a 50% correction
The article says Bitcoin has about a $1.3 trillion market cap, making up roughly 60% of the crypto market value.
A new Yahoo Finance article argues that Bitcoin should be the single cryptocurrency investors choose for exposure to the broader crypto market, even after it has corrected by about 50%. The piece says Bitcoin’s market capitalization is about $1.3 trillion and that it represents roughly 60% of total crypto market value.
The article also cites BlackRock research from last year, saying Bitcoin has often been uncorrelated with other asset classes and has been treated by some investors as a hedge, sometimes described as “digital gold.” It adds that Bitcoin tends to trail gold early in a crisis but can outperform over longer stretches, citing 60 days or more.
It further claims that amid tensions in Europe and the Middle East and concerns about the US macroeconomic outlook, Bitcoin is viewed as comparatively safer than other major cryptocurrencies during down markets. The article says Bitcoin is down 28% for the year, while it estimates riskier altcoins are down about 40% to 50%.
The article highlights Bitcoin’s longer-term performance, saying that a decade ago it traded around $578 per coin and that it is near $64,000 today. It frames this as evidence of upside potential compared with other cryptocurrencies.
