CATL says its aviation battery system is ready for mass production

CATL said the first application of its aviation battery system will be in its Autoflight flying vehicles.

Contemporary Amperex Technology Ltd, the world’s largest EV battery maker, says its aviation battery system has cleared a major safety test and is ready for mass production, according to the South China Morning Post. The company said it plans to apply the system first to its Autoflight flying vehicles.

CATL added that it will work with partners and relevant research institutions to address ongoing technical challenges and produce safe, reliable battery systems for drone makers and users.

The report also notes that CATL is seeking to expand energy solutions across transportation modes beyond cars and trucks, including ships and aircraft, tying the push to broader plans for cleaner mobility and China’s renewable energy leadership.

A senior executive at Suzhou Hazardtex, a supplier of specialized batteries, said the test further shows how CATL’s innovations are reshaping the decarbonization landscape for the global economy.
