Shanghai cancels nearly 40% of flights as Typhoon Dolphin worsens floods
Pudong airport logged 642 cancellations and Hongqiao 301, while parts of the city faced water accumulation up to 30cm.
Shanghai airports cancelled nearly 40% of flights on Monday as heavy rain continued after Typhoon Dolphin made landfall in eastern China and moved north, according to SCMP Economy. Shanghai’s government notice said cancellations totaled 642 at Pudong airport and 301 at Hongqiao, as officials urged passengers to check with their airlines for updates. Some train services began recovering on Monday morning, including routes to Hangzhou, but four metro lines were completely halted due to the rainfall.
SCMP Economy also reported that Shanghai’s flood control headquarters warned residents to take precautions, saying some areas could see accumulated water of up to 30cm. The city issued orange and yellow rainstorm alerts for multiple districts.
The Paper, as cited by SCMP Economy, reported flooding in popular commercial areas on Sunday afternoon. SCMP Economy said a city worker attributed the flooding to a sewage system that was full after the heavy rainfall and unable to absorb more water.
