Gibson Dunn expands real estate practice by 30% in two years

The firm says its real estate department logged $462 million in business in 2025 and expects growth to well over $500 million this year.

Gibson Dunn’s real estate department has expanded by 30% over the past two years, growing to more than 200 lawyers across 17 of the firm’s 23 offices worldwide.

The outlet says the group now has 21 attorneys in London, up from six in 2021, and highlights growth in offices including New York, Washington, D.C., Los Angeles, and San Francisco. The firm attributes the increase to client needs tied to large and complex real estate transactions.

Recent deals cited by Commercial Observer include Blackstone’s April 2025 acquisition of Safe Harbor Marinas from Sun Communities for $5.65 billion, Related Companies’ joint venture with Oxford Properties Group to develop the 1.385 million-square-foot 70 Hudson Yards, and RXR’s $540 million recapitalization of three New York City office towers collectively valued above $3.5 billion.

Commercial Observer also notes that Gibson Dunn completed more than 225 data center transactions in 2025, including advising on a $16 billion joint venture between Blackstone and Related Digital. The firm’s co-chair Jesse Sharf said the real estate department generated $462 million in business in 2025, and he expects that figure to rise to well over $500 million in 2026.
