Hashdex to halt DEFI spot Bitcoin ETF trading on Aug. 17

Investors who stay after the Aug. 17 close will receive a cash payout from the fund’s Bitcoin liquidation by Aug. 28, with amounts tied to Bitcoin’s net asset value and expenses.

Hashdex will stop trading its DEFI Bitcoin ETF after the Aug. 17 close, leaving investors a final window to exit before the fund is liquidated, according to an SEC filing cited by CryptoSlate.

The outlet reports that investors remaining after trading ends will receive cash from the liquidation of the fund’s Bitcoin holdings by Aug. 28. The final payout is expected to be based on the fund’s net asset value after accounting for Bitcoin price moves, transaction costs, and other closing expenses.

CryptoSlate says Hashdex data showed DEFI held about $8.7 million in assets and 134.95 BTC as of Aug. 11, down from $11.77 million and 180.26 BTC on Aug. 7. It also notes shares outstanding fell to 120,000 from 160,000 over those three days, a 25% decline consistent with redemptions ahead of the shutdown.

While CryptoSlate points to renewed activity across US spot Bitcoin ETFs, it highlights how demand has been uneven by product. During Aug. 3 to Aug. 7, US spot Bitcoin ETFs gathered $865.3 million in net inflows, with BlackRock’s IBIT accounting for $693.5 million, or 80.1%, of the total, leaving about $171.8 million for the rest combined.
