XRP and ether fall as bitcoin slips below $65,000
Bitcoin failed to hold $65,000 for a fourth straight day, with analysts pointing to a buildup of short positions above the level and $70,000 as the next key threshold.
Bitcoin slipped below $65,000 for a fourth consecutive day, extending weak sentiment across crypto, according to CoinDesk. The selloff left bitcoin near $64,000 after it briefly topped out above $65,300 earlier in the session.
Ether led declines among major tokens, down more than 2% to about $1,878, while XRP fell almost 2% to around $1.01 and was down nearly 6% on the week, CoinDesk reported. Solana and BNB, meanwhile, held weekly gains, with Solana around $76 and BNB near $600.
CoinDesk cited analysts who said bitcoin has been testing $65,000 without a clear surge in buying, and more notably without meaningful selling into the level. The lack of selling, in their view, reflects a buildup of short positions above $65,000, making $70,000 near bitcoin’s 200-day moving average the next area traders will watch for a sentiment shift.
Broader markets were also moving in the background, with CoinDesk pointing to rising bond yields and higher oil prices ahead of upcoming U.S. inflation data. The crypto sentiment index stood at 30 in the so-called fear zone, where it has remained since mid-July with only brief dips toward extreme fear.
