ModelBest begins pre-IPO tutoring for a mainland China listing

The required pre-listing tutoring period is at least three months, potentially setting up an IPO next year.

Chinese AI start-up ModelBest has started the mandatory pre-IPO tutoring process ahead of a potential listing in mainland China, aiming to tap demand for compact artificial intelligence models that can run on devices such as smartphones, laptops, and in cars.

According to a filing cited by SCMP Economy, ModelBest has hired Citic Securities to guide its pre-listing preparation. The company has not disclosed how much it plans to raise, its timeline, or which venue it intends to list on.

The mandatory tutoring program lasts at least three months, with the process potentially paving the way for an IPO next year. Before an IPO application can be submitted on the mainland, a licensed sponsor, typically a securities firm or investment bank, leads a structured programme to bring the company up to listing standards.

The guidance focuses on areas including corporate governance, risk management, audit readiness, and information disclosure practices, according to SCMP Economy.
