Power returns to Hong Kong funeral parlour after Sunday outage

The prolonged outage had affected exhaust ventilation, so burning of paper offerings stayed limited until repairs were completed.

A prolonged power outage that began on Sunday disrupted operations at Global Funeral Parlour in Hung Hom, with the site limiting the burning of paper offerings because ventilation was not working properly, the South China Morning Post reported.

Power was restored on Wednesday, bringing back lights and air conditioning across the venue’s five floors, while staff deployed large fans and air coolers to manage temperatures. Repair work was still underway on the exhaust ventilation system, leaving it weak enough that burning remained restricted.

Funerals continued inside two halls, and notices about the power situation were posted near the passenger lifts. Tung Wah Group of Hospitals, which runs the venue, said the outage initially affected lighting, air conditioning and exhaust ventilation on some floors, as well as the lifts used to transport bodies.
