Brazil raises 2025-26 grain harvest forecast to 360.8 million tonnes

Conab lifted its estimate by 700,000 tonnes from July and expects output to rise 2.4% year on year, supported by a larger cultivated area.

Brazil’s National Supply Co., Conab, raised its estimate for total grain production, covering corn, rice, wheat and soybeans, for the 2025-26 marketing year to 360.8 million tonnes.

In its 11th survey of the current grain crop released Aug. 13, Conab increased the forecast by 700,000 tonnes versus its July report. If achieved, the harvest would be up 8.5 million tonnes, or 2.4%, from the prior season, supported by an expected 2.1% growth in cultivated area to 83.5 million hectares.

Conab projected national average productivity at 4,322 kilos per hectare, unchanged from the previous season. It also forecast soybeans at 180.5 million tonnes, slightly below July’s outlook but still about 5% higher year on year, backed by a 2.7% increase in cultivated area.

For other grains, Conab estimated corn production at nearly 143 million tonnes across three planting seasons, with the first crop at 29.5 million tonnes and the second season at 111 million tonnes, while the third crop in the northeast was forecast at 2.4 million tonnes. Rice was projected at 11.1 million tonnes, with planted area shrinking 14% from 2025-26, though Conab said the harvested volume would still meet domestic demand.
