YMTC reaches top-three status in global NAND flash shipments
YMTC took 14.0% of global NAND bit shipments in the second quarter, lifting volume 22.0% year on year as it expands output of its latest 3D NAND architecture.
Yangtze Memory Technologies Corp (YMTC) has moved into the world’s top three NAND flash suppliers by shipment volume for the first time, a milestone tied to China’s broader semiconductor push. According to data from Counterpoint Research cited by SCMP Economy, YMTC captured 14.0% of global NAND bit shipments in the second quarter, narrowly surpassing Japan’s Kioxia.
Samsung Electronics remained the global leader with a 25.0% share, while SK Hynix, including its Solidigm subsidiary, held second place at 22.0%. YMTC’s NAND shipments rose 22.0% year on year and 5.0% quarter on quarter, supported by expanded supplies to domestic electronics makers and increased production of its latest-generation 3D NAND.
SCMP Economy also notes that despite the jump in shipment volume, YMTC still trails in revenue terms. The company ranked fifth globally in NAND revenue for the quarter, behind Micron Technology and Kioxia, with the gap attributed to its heavier exposure to lower-margin consumer products and a smaller presence in higher-priced enterprise solid-state drives, or eSSDs.
