Indian stocks hold range as Iran-US talks and crude outlook weigh

Sensex rose 0.15% to 78,079.96 while Nifty slipped 0.16% to 24,395.85 amid cautious sentiment tied to energy prices and Middle East shipping risks.

India’s stock market stayed rangebound for a fourth straight session on Thursday, August 13, as investors weighed uncertainty around a possible US-Iran agreement and the potential reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, according to LiveMint Markets.

Caution was also reinforced by crude oil weakness, with sentiment tempered as expectations pointed to weaker global demand this year. Brent crude remained in a roughly $87 to $89 per barrel range, while investors tracked the impact of persistent Middle East and shipping-route concerns on energy prices.

The Sensex closed up 114 points, or 0.15%, at 78,079.96, while the Nifty ended down 40 points, or 0.16%, at 24,395.85. In the broader market, Nifty Midcap 100 gained 0.15% and Smallcap 100 rose 0.27%.

On the domestic front, July retail inflation accelerated to 4.45%, and attention turned to upcoming Q1 results. LiveMint Markets also highlighted that Ashok Leyland, NMDC, Cochin Shipyard, Bharat Dynamics, Physicswallah, and Patanjali Foods were among the companies expected to report Q1 results on Friday, August 14.
