Certified soy sourcing rises in EU, but compliance share slips
For 2024, the EU27+ bought 14.6 million tonnes of certified soy, but the portion meeting FEFAC Soy Sourcing Guidelines fell to 44% from 54% in 2023.
A new European Soy Monitor for 2024 shows a continued multiyear increase in certified soy sourcing across the EU27+, reaching 14.6 million tonnes, the report says.
While absolute volumes stayed high, the share of soy aligned with FEFAC Soy Sourcing Guidelines-compliant sourcing dropped to 44% in 2024 from 54% in 2023, according to World Grain.
The report links the shift to a growing overall soy footprint in the EU27+, where reliance on soy imports remains strong for feed production.
It also notes global soy production rose to 397 million tonnes in 2024 from 371 million tonnes in 2023, and the area planted with soy increased by 4.4% versus 2023. The European Soy Monitor was commissioned by a group of feed and sustainability organizations including FEFAC, Donau Soja, and FEDIOL.
