Denver Public Schools to buy Centennial Hall for $11M

The planned purchase will let Emily Griffith Technical College consolidate student services and administrative staff in one location after the deal closes in October.

Denver Public Schools plans to purchase Centennial Hall, a roughly 66,000-square-foot building near the former Johnson & Wales campus in Denver, for $11 million later this year, according to Bisnow. The property, located at 1800 Pontiac St. in the South Park Hill neighborhood, is expected to close in October. After the deal is finalized, Emily Griffith Technical College, which is part of DPS, will take occupancy of the more than 100-year-old building.

Bisnow reports the DPS board unanimously approved the acquisition in April, and the building is described in DPS documents as move-in ready. The college plans to use Centennial Hall as a hub for classroom-facing programs, including esthetician programs, along with community events such as graduations.

According to DPS documents cited by Bisnow, EGTC will also house its student services teams and administrative staff in one location rather than being spread across Denver, with current offices including the DPS building at 1860 Lincoln St. The college intends to fund the purchase of the building and the approximately 0.73-acre site using its reserve fund and the 2020 bond fund allocated to EGTC.
