Hong Kong Gold Exchange and TGX Technology launch JV for gold clearing
The new trading and clearing platform, HKGXTS, is expected to begin pilot operations in the first quarter of 2027 and will initially unify existing products and settlement services.
Hong Kong’s gold trading infrastructure is set to expand after the Hong Kong Gold Exchange (HKGX) and TGX Technology launched a joint venture to build a gold trading and clearing platform, HKGXTS, according to a statement reported by SCMP Economy. The effort targets a “secure, stable and internationally competitive” system as Hong Kong seeks to strengthen its position as a gold trading hub.
HKGXTS will draw on technology partners including Alibaba Cloud, which backs TGX Technology, and Hundsun Technologies. HKGXTS chairman Haywood Cheung said the initiative is an important step toward enhancing Hong Kong’s gold trading infrastructure, and Alibaba owns SCMP.
The statement said HKGXTS is expected to commence pilot operations in the first quarter of 2027. The first phase will combine HKGX’s existing products, trading, settlement and clearing services into a single unified system, with additional digital offerings, including support for gold tokenisation, planned for later.
