Hormuz escalation strengthens risk-off pressure, hurting silver and copper
As the ceasefire framework expired without renewal and a tanker was struck in the Strait of Hormuz, yields jumped to multi-year highs and equities slid for multiple sessions.
Action Forex says the Hormuz crisis is shifting from an oil and bond-driven trade into a broader risk-off environment, with equities weakening and industrial metals turning lower. The outlet points to Brent pushing toward $92 and WTI holding around $85 as the escalation continues.
The move is also showing up across rates, which is why the shock is taking on what the outlet calls a stagflationary character. It cites the US 30-year yield at about 5.33 percent, the highest in 19 years, and the US 10-year hovering around 4.72 to 4.75 percent, while Germany’s 10-year Bund has climbed to around 3.27 percent, the highest since 2011.
Action Forex links the shift to events around the Strait of Hormuz, noting the June 17 ceasefire framework expired August 17 without renewal and that another tanker was struck. It also says a US envoy indicated Iran is unwilling to compromise on US demands, framing the current talks as failing to narrow differences.
In markets, the outlet reports pressure spreading beyond commodities into equities, with the Dow down 0.2 percent, the S&P 500 down 0.7 percent, and the Nasdaq down 1.3 percent over the latest session. It adds that silver’s weakening rebound structure reflects its more direct sensitivity to industrial demand and risk appetite, rather than only monetary uncertainty and inflation concerns.
