Tajikistan seeks Iranian oil and fuels as Russia supply falters
Tajikistan asked for 2.55 million tons total, including 2.0 million tons of crude, after more than 80% of its fuel previously came from Russia.
Tajikistan has requested oil and petroleum product imports from Iran after a fuel supply squeeze linked to Russia disrupted shipments from its largest supplier, the Tajikistan Transport Ministry said, according to OilPrice.
The country said it reached out following a meeting with senior Iranian government officials in Tehran, where Tajikistan signed more than a dozen cooperation agreements with the Islamic Republic.
Tajikistan outlined planned volumes of 2.55 million tons of oil and fuels from Iran, including 2.0 million tons of crude oil, 150,000 tons of gasoline, 300,000 tons of diesel, and 100,000 tons of jet fuel, the ministry said.
In remarks carried by OilPrice, Tajikistan’s transport minister, Azim Ibrohim, said the global geopolitical situation has cut fuel imports, noting that more than 80% of Tajikistan’s fuel previously came from Russia, and that the country plans to pursue supplies from other countries including Iran.
