Li Yun appointed deputy Party secretary and acting mayor of Shenzhen
The reshuffle places Li Yun in the role ahead of Shenzhen hosting the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in November.
Li Yun, a banking veteran, has been appointed deputy Communist Party secretary and acting mayor of Shenzhen, in southern China, according to SCMP Economy. The move comes just months before the city is scheduled to host Apec meetings.
SCMP Economy said Li spent more than two decades working in financial institutions, including 21 years at Agricultural Bank of China. It added he has also served as vice-president of China Construction Bank, before becoming vice-governor of Guangdong province in 2025.
The report said Li vowed to implement decisions from the central committee and provincial and municipal party committees, while pushing for progress in Shenzhen’s high quality development and modernization drive.
Shenzhen is due to host the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in November, an event the Chinese leadership views as an opportunity to showcase China’s technological innovation, deepen high level diplomatic engagement, and support regional integration, SCMP Economy reported.
