Dining industry shifts value focus toward experience, quality and convenience

Placer.ai says dining traffic has trailed 2025 in most months, but fast casual and fine dining have been showing more resilient momentum.

Value is increasingly defining success across the dining industry, though its meaning is changing from brand to brand and across restaurant categories, according to a new white paper from Placer.ai.

In Dining In 2026: All Roads Lead To Value, Placer.ai says consumers in 2026 are weighing value through a broader lens that includes experience, quality, convenience, and affordability.

The paper also points to ongoing economic pressure and suggests perceptions of value are evolving as overall dining traffic this year has trailed 2025 in most months.

Placer.ai highlights that some segments, including fast casual and fine dining, are doing better than others, with fast casual chains maintaining positive traffic momentum by pairing everyday value with benefits of full service dining, citing examples such as Chipotle combining menu novelty with loyalty perks to reinforce its quality and experience driven value proposition.
