England plans 70,000 social and affordable homes under £39bn program
The first phase targets 60% of the homes for social rent, which has criteria and lower costs than market rents, including £6bn earmarked for London.
The UK government has announced where 70,000 social and affordable homes will be built in England over the next 10 years as part of a wider plan for 300,000 homes, with a total program value of £39bn, according to BBC Business.
Funding is set to go to Greater Manchester, the West Midlands, West Yorkshire, South Yorkshire, North East England, and Liverpool, along with £6bn allocated for London.
BBC News reported that 60% of the newly announced homes would be for social rent, described as costing about half of market rents and subject to strict eligibility criteria.
