Netanyahu says Iran attempted to assassinate one of his sons

Netanyahu urged around-the-clock security for Gadi Eisenkot, who is running neck and neck with him ahead of the Oct. 27 election.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Iran attempted to assassinate one of his two sons, without providing further details, according to a report by the SCMP Economy that drew on an Agence France-Presse write-up.

Netanyahu made the claim during a phone interview with Israel’s Channel 14, saying, Iran targeted one of his sons and tried to kill him, and he did not specify which son was allegedly targeted.

The remarks came as Netanyahu discussed reports that Shin Bet, Israel’s domestic security agency, declined to provide a security detail for Gadi Eisenkot, the former army chief running close to Netanyahu in polling ahead of elections on October 27.

Netanyahu said Eisenkot should receive around-the-clock protection, calling it “not a luxury,” and he has two sons and a daughter.
