Suspect linked to HK airport gold robbery arrested after tunnel crash

Police said they found about 66 grams of suspected cocaine and other drug items, valued at roughly HK$70,000, after the crash.

A suspect connected to a HK$7 million gold robbery at Hong Kong International Airport has been arrested after he crashed his private car inside Tate’s Cairn Tunnel, according to SCMP Economy.

The outlet said the 21-year-old was driving toward Sha Tin at about 3am on Tuesday when his vehicle collided with an oncoming car. Police found around 66 grams of suspected cocaine, five e-cigarette cartridges suspected to contain etomidate, and drug paraphernalia on the driver and inside the car.

SCMP Economy reported that the injured driver refused hospital treatment and was arrested at the scene, while two occupants in the other vehicle were taken to Prince of Wales Hospital.

Investigators, the outlet added, identified the suspect as one of the key figures in the June 18 airport robbery.
