Google expands Gemini Enterprise for Legal with plug-in, AI agents
The updated Gemini Enterprise for Legal is set up to connect securely with legal platforms and includes AI agents designed to handle specialized legal and administrative tasks with limited human oversight.
Alphabet’s Google expanded its Gemini Enterprise artificial intelligence platform with new capabilities aimed at law firms and legal teams. The update, called Gemini Enterprise for Legal, is intended to help firms use AI to manage routine and more complex work while keeping client data secure and confidential, so lawyers can focus on higher-value services, the company said.
Google also described the launch as an industry effort to meet growing demand for enterprise AI in the legal sector. The offering includes a plug-in with integration to legal software and data platforms, as well as AI agents that Google said can perform specialized legal and administrative functions without significant human oversight.
In addition to its legal push, Google said it is rolling out industry tools for the financial services sector and plans to later expand other industry-specific offerings. The company launched Gemini Enterprise for business customers in October as part of its effort to attract more corporate clients through AI.
Rival enterprise AI providers have also expanded in the legal market recently, including Anthropic. Google said its platform will connect directly and securely with other legal technology platforms owned by Thomson Reuters, legal AI developer Harvey, and LexisNexis, among others, while Thomson Reuters has promoted its own proprietary large language model, Thomson 1.0, trained on its legal research content.
