Walmart buys 41 acres for second Celina store

The retailer plans a store of at least 150,000 square feet, backed by up to $5.1 million in city incentives under an economic development deal.

ConnectCRE reports Walmart has purchased 41 acres at the southeast corner of FM 455 and the Dallas North Tollway in Celina, adjacent to the Legacy Hills master-planned community, as the company prepares a second store in the Texas city.

Celina City Council approved an economic development agreement with Walmart in July, with the retailer eligible to receive up to $5.1 million in incentives.

Under the agreement, the planned location will be at least 150,000 square feet and requires a minimum $25 million investment from Walmart, not including land costs, while Walmart must maintain at least 120 full-time employees for the duration of the deal.

The city of Celina and the Celina Economic Development Corp. will each provide Walmart a 50% sales tax reimbursement grant for 10 years, and the first Walmart in Celina opened off Preston Road in April, according to ConnectCRE.
