Dolly Parton built a Dollywood-linked real estate empire in Tennessee

Bisnow says Parton’s Dollywood Parks & Resorts project spans 165 acres and helped expand employment to more than 4,000 people.

Bisnow reports that Dolly Parton, who died in Nashville on Tuesday at age 80 shortly after a cancer diagnosis, built a large hospitality and commercial real estate business tied to Dollywood in Tennessee, anchored by the 165-acre Dollywood Parks & Resorts.

The outlet says Parton partnered with Jack and Pete Herschend in 1983 to convert Silver Dollar City in Pigeon Forge into a theme park under her namesake and brand, with a $5 million expansion approved by 1985 and construction starting after that approval.

Bisnow also notes the original opening was expected to create 150 permanent jobs and 150 temporary jobs, but that growth has far exceeded expectations, with the park today reportedly employing more than 4,000 people.
